Hi! My name is Alex Beckman, and I am a recent alumni of West Virginia University from Haymarket, Virginia and majored in Exercise Physiology.

 I was originally inspired to look into WVU Global Medical and Dental Brigades my junior year of undergraduate when one of the representatives at the time spoke to my class. I was immediately interested and found myself that night researching what the organization was all about. I discovered that Global Brigades’s foundation of ethics and purpose was something I deeply wanted to belong to. I applied my first time around, and was humbly accepted to the group preparing to brigade to Honduras. After attending many of the group meetings and preparation classes, I was more excited than ever then to be apart of something bigger than myself. Global Brigades here at WVU has created an incredibly inclusive and positive atmosphere. The curriculum of the program is what separates it from mission trips, church retreats, and other volunteer abroad programs by implementing a holistic model into its care that empowers the communities we serve. I was able to attend my first Brigade in Spring 2023 and I can proudly state that the WVU Global Medical and Dental Brigades set a standard of excellence in their mission, service, beliefs, and actions.
