Brigading for Better Health
Over Spring Break this year, a group of 56 Mountaineers worked on brigade across rural Panama. The group collaborated with Panamanian medical and dental professionals in three different communities, serving approximately 900 patients in clinic. The group spent several days helping to facilitate medical and dental clinics in Yavitza, La Cantera, and Agua Fria, Panama. In the clinics the students and faculty work with local professionals to manage triage, consultation, optometry, pharmacy, OGBYN, and educational charlas for the patients. They also spent two days working on public health projects related to water. They also had a research day doing groundwork ethnographic work with Global Brigades staff in preparation for future brigades. The group visited a sixth local community where they were able to discuss public health issue with local leaders and be immersed into various cultural experiences.
We are currently planning our 2026 brigade schedule. The next application will be posted under the "apply" tab by early July.
"It speaks great volumes about the quality of our university and the commitment of our students." - President E. Gordon Gee
