Dr. Rachel Nieman

Honduras Rachel

INSTRUCTOR OF SUPPORT: Nicaragua 2018, Honduras 2019, Panama 2023, and Honduras 2024

Hi there! My name is Rachel Nieman, and I have been involved with the WVU Global Medical and Dental Brigades since 2018. I work at the John Chambers College of Business and Economics as the Director of the Becker Academic Engagement Success Center.

I am a Morgantown native and proud 3x graduate of WVU. My professional interests lie in college student support services and student development. Seeing students grow and learn in real time as they engage with their education is the absolute best part of working in higher education, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this organization as it allows me to do so outside of my typical duties in the Chambers College and in a global context.

I have a deep passion for WVU’s land grant mission to support rural students from West Virginia. Rural areas face unique challenges in many facets of everyday life. I love how Professor Brewster connects our work in rural areas abroad to supporting rural areas at home!

I strive to bring a lens of student development and leadership to the course by explaining how experiential learning experiences like Brigades are so much more than a line on a student’s resume – they contribute to a student’s academic, professional, and personal growth while making a positive impact on others.
