Instructor of Support: Nicaragua 2018, Honduras 2019, and Ghana 2019, Panama 2023

Hi! My name is Kallie Nealis, and I work for University Relations as a social media specialist. After traveling to Matagalpa for the 2018 Global Medical and Dental Brigades trip as a graduate student, I served as a chaperone for brigades to Honduras and Ghana in 2019.

Last year’s brigade to Nicaragua was an unparalleled, humbling learning experience. Being that I was in the minority among my fellow students as a graduate student studying journalism (rather than preparing for a future in a medical field), I am grateful for the opportunity to share what I learned in support of students who are in similar shoes. I also look forward to educating students on the dilemma of "voluntourism" and the best practices for making the most of their trip for themselves and on behalf of those we’re seeking to serve.
