Hi! My name is Zadie Worley and I’m a junior majoring in Neuroscience and Multidisciplinary Studies. I am from Lester, West Virginia.
I learned about WVU’s Global Medical and Dental Brigades from WVU students who had previously brigaded before. After attending the interest session last year, I knew that I wanted to put my best foot forward in applying and was offered a spot as a member of the 2026 brigade to Panama. Global Brigades approaches medicine in a way that was unfamiliar to me previously. Their holistic model and practice of medicine with emphasis on sociological context and influence make the work that brigades does heavily impactful and sustainable. Taking part in a brigade, especially through WVU, is an incredibly meaningful and educational experience that you cannot replace in any other way. Our sociology class was highly thought provoking and has changed the way that I view health disparities both in rural regions of the world such as Panama, as well as West Virginia and other regions of Appalachia. I could not recommend more to apply and get involved with WVU’s Global Medical and Dental Brigades chapters, and am always open to answering questions or providing more information if needed!
