Hi! My name is Joseph McGuire and I’m from Philippi, WV. I majored in Biology and am currently a resident at WVU School of Medicine.

When I came to WVU, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in medicine, but had never formally shadowed a physician or worked in healthcare. One of the former presidents, Joy Wang, was in the Mountaineer Marching band with me and suggested that I join the organization. I didn’t hesitate and later went to Panama in 2015 with her and many other incredible people that have had significant impacts on my life. In Panama, I not only solidified the choice of pursuing a career in medicine in my mind, but also truly experienced growth like never before. I went every single year I had the chance to during my undergraduate career and truly feel as if I have been changed for the better because of it. There is no other organization on campus that will surround you with such incredible people all while forcing such great personal growth to occur, and I look forward to seeing how it grows to become even better in the coming years.
