Dental Brigades President 2021-2022

My name is Joseph Schmidlen, and I am a senior majoring in Biochemistry from Elkins, West Virginia. I am interested in rural medicine and serving in rural communities!

My involvement in Global Brigades was sparked by my interest in rural medicine and empowering communities in resource-reduced areas. After looking through various student organizations at WVU, Global Brigades turned out to be the perfect fit for me. Listening to brigaders with experience in country motivated me to want to be a part of this excellent cause. Unfortunately, my first brigade was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Although this was discouraging, I look forward to our next brigades, where we will empower community members and provide a way for sustainable health.
