Laasya Chennuru

Laasya Triage

Triage Co-Chair 2023-2024

Hello! My name is Laasya Chennuru, and I am a junior majoring in biology and psychology from Martinsburg, WV.

I initially heard about WVU Global Medical and Dental Brigades when I was in high school from former students during a Mountaineer Mentors visit. As they described how GMDB empowers resource-reduced communities to become sustainable in the long run, I was inspired by their passion for a cause greater than themselves and decided to apply during my first semester at WVU. My experience with this organization over the last two years has been invaluable — I have become more informed about social determinants of health, more cognizant of my privilege through my interactions with local Panamanians, and more receptive to developing different perspectives on multifaceted issues. I have also been able to draw parallels between the root of healthcare problems in resource-reduced regions of the world and Appalachia. As a result, I have realized the importance of increasing resource accessibility and uplifting underserved populations both locally and abroad. It has been incredibly rewarding volunteering with Pantry Plus More to combat food insecurity throughout the greater Morgantown community in addition to participating in international healthcare and public health initiatives. I am looking forward to our upcoming brigades and I highly encourage you to apply if you are searching for a meaningful experience!
