Faculty Support 2024-present; Medical Brigades President 2022-2023; Dental Brigades Vice President 2021-2022

Hi! My name is Matthew Hudson, and I am in my second year at the WVU School of Medicine. I am currently enrolled in the Global Health Track.

I first heard of WVU Global Medical and Dental Brigades in high school during a supply drive for an upcoming brigade. After arriving on campus and researching the core values Global Brigades was founded upon, I applied my freshman year and was accepted into the group set to brigade to Honduras over Spring Break. The course component, Sociology of Health and Medicine, ignited a passion for health advocacy, highlighted the significance of public health, and offered me the ability to practice servant-leadership, both at home and abroad. Despite the Honduran brigade’s cancellation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the lectures given-even after the devastating news-proved to be among the most valuable and impactful lectures I have attended during my time at WVU. Over the past three years, I served alongside other members from WVUGMDB at monthly food giveaways with the Pantry Plus More in Morgantown. Having now brigaded in Panama, I am excited to eager to finally joining the brigade this year as a faculty support person. I look forward to supporting the next group of students and applying the clinical knowledge gained thus far in my medical education.
