Triage Co-Chair 2022-2023

Hello everyone! My name is Jake Herriott. I am a senior majoring in Exercise Physiology from Parkersburg, WV

I was first introduced to the Global Brigades during my biochemistry class last fall. One of the previous leaders had come to deliver a short presentation about the organization and its values. I remember being enamored by the idea of being able to combine my interest in medicine with the opportunity to partake in service abroad. After researching the Global Brigades’ mission and their holistic model, I decided to apply. Soon, I was introduced to some of the most diligent and compassionate people I’ve ever had the privilege to work with. While our Panama brigade was unfortunately canceled due to COVID-19 protocols, we were still able to do important work locally. Pairing with a local food pantry, we have hosted several food distribution drives to assist in alleviating the hunger crisis within the Morgantown community. It was humbling to see the need that exists right before our eyes, and extremely rewarding to know that our direct efforts were contributing to feeding hungry families. These events have assisted in cementing my feeling of belonging within this community, and provided meaningful interactions with my brigade-mates. While we still lack experience abroad, I have no doubts that this group will be capable and eager to establish sustainable healthcare infrastructure in whatever country we are fortunate enough to travel to this spring. I have found this organization to be among the most valuable experiences that I have had while at WVU, and hope to be an example of its virtues during the upcoming year
