Instructor of Support : Panama 2023; Medical Brigades President 2020-2021

My name is Nicholas Miller, and I am a third year student at the WVU School of Medicine.

Hi. My name is Nick Miller, and I am currently a third-year medical student at WVU. I am originally from Hedgesville, WV in Berkeley County.
My experience with Global Medical and Dental Brigades began back in 2017 when I first came to WVU as a freshman. I had heard incredible things about the organization and attended an informational session about the 2018 Brigade to Nicaragua. I knew while listening to the former student leaders and faculty discuss the work and their experiences that I would be applying.

Fast forward 6 years. I had the incredible opportunity to travel on three brigades as an undergraduate: Nicaragua in Spring 2018, Honduras in Spring 2019, and Ghana in Summer 2019. While the global pandemic altered the organization’s trajectory for several years, I was very excited to be invited to the first Brigade post-COVID as a chaperone to Panama in Spring 2023. Returning to the work after spending some time learning medicine was truly a unique experience that reaffirmed my passion for the field of work and desire to serve.

I certainly attribute a large portion of my personal and professional growth and maturity to my experiences with Global Medical and Dental Brigades. I feel that it is so important to go outside your comfort zone and do all that you can to learn about life outside your own personal bubble.
I would highly encourage any student to apply to work on a Brigade, regardless of whether medical school is your future plan. I think you will be surprised by just how much learning there is to be done.

Please reach out using the email above if you have any questions or want to talk about Brigades. Thanks.
